But with the Powerball topping $600 million around the holidays, the recent health sciences grad took her chances on Christmas Day — and it paid off to the tune of $50,000.
Her short-term plans? Not so fun.
“I’m going to put it in savings,” she told lottery officials.
Her long-term plans? Much more fun.
The winner said she’ll eventually use her winnings to apply to medical schools and concentrate in pediatric medicine.
The Montgomery County resident’s mom, who was brought along to celebrate her daughter’s big win as she claimed her prize, told officials, “We’re still in shock.” Her dad actually introduced her to Lottery play.”
Meanwhile, the winner had rather modest plans for their trip home.
“We’re planning to stop at Dunkin’ Donuts, go home and put my feet up,” she said.
The winning ticket was purchased at Safeway on Norbeck Road in Rockville, which will also receive a Lottery bonus for selling the big winner.
